The Body Mass Index (BMI) is the method that relates an individual’s body weight to their height. This provides a more accurate indicator of a person’s body fat content because unlike traditional height and weight charts, it takes into account a person’s height. The National Health Institute now defines normal weight, overweight, and obesity using the Body Mass Index. Overweight is defined as having a BMI of 27.3 % or more for women and 27.8 % or more for men. Obesity is defined as having a BMI 30 and above. If you have a 40+ BMI or 50+ BMI and weight loss is impossible, adjustable gastric band is a good option. Stomach stapling is a risky form of weight loss surgery which is why lap Band is preferred. Lap band bariatric surgery is a leading gastric bypass surgery performed through laparoscopic surgery which is less invasive and is more successful. |
